Art Deco in Lake Worth - It's Here and It's Fabulous!

I fell in love with art deco the first time I visited Miami Beach in 1996. I could hardly believe such a place existed, with such beautiful buildings -- so cinematic, so imaginative, so fabulous. And when I found Lake Worth, in central Palm Beach County, I was overjoyed to find deco here, too.

We have some superb art deco buildings downtown -- including the Lake Worth Playhouse and the building that now houses the Palm Beach County Cultural Council, both on Lake Avenue. But we also have a handful of really nice residential deco buildings, like this one (below) on the southeast corner of Lucerne and Lakeside Drive. It probably was a commercial building, but it now has several apartments in it. The front door, however, still brings you into a two-story room with fireplace. Boy I would love to have seen it back in the day.

By the way,..this building at 101 Lucerne has a realtor's sign hanging in front of it with Jerry Ruff as agent. So if you're interested in deco preservation, and want to buy it, give him a call. I know Jerry. But no, he's not going to give me any cut of anything. Trust me.
